303 - PATROL OPERATIONS & INCIDENT RESPONSE
303.1 - PATROL OBJECTIVES.
The goal of a patrol unit is to provide a visible deterrent and ensure the safety of the client's property. Guards are expected to remain proactive, not reactive.
Proactive Monitoring: Do not remain stationary for more than 15 minutes unless assigned to a static post.
Observation: Look for open gates, broken windows, suspicious loitering, or unauthorized vehicles on client property.
Pedestrian Stops (Field Interviews): When encountering a suspicious person on property, guards should conduct a professional inquiry.
Greeting: "Good evening, I am [Name] with [Agency]. Are you a resident/employee here?"
Trespassing: If the subject has no legal reason to be on the property, they must be asked to leave.
Refusal to Leave: If a subject refuses to leave after being told they are trespassing, notify Law Enforcement immediately. Do not escalate to physical force unless they become violent.
Vehicle Inquiries: Guards may approach vehicles idling on property to determine their business.
Lighting: Use your amber lighting or a spotlight to illuminate the vehicle for safety.
Safety: Always approach from the rear and maintain a position behind the "B-pillar" (middle of the car) to avoid being struck if the door opens.
If a guard discovers a crime scene (theft, assault, or homicide), their role changes from "Security" to "Observer."
Secure the Area: Use your vehicle or police tape (if authorized) to cordoned off the area.
Do Not Touch: Never move or touch evidence (shell casings, weapons, tools).
Witness Log: Begin a list of anyone seen leaving or entering the area before Law Enforcement arrives.
Handover: Upon the arrival of Law Enforcement, provide a brief, factual report and follow all officer instructions.
Every major interaction must be documented. A "Major Interaction" includes:
Any use of force.
Any contact with Law Enforcement.
Any crime discovered on property.
Any verbal trespass warning issued.
The "S.A.A.L.T." Method for Radio Reporting: When reporting a suspicious person or vehicle, use the following format:
S - Size (Number of people/type of car).
A - Activity (What are they doing?).
A - Arms (Do they have weapons?).
L - Location (Where exactly are they?).
T - Time (How long have they been there?).
Personnel assigned to a "Static Post" (Gatehouse, Lobby, or Guard Shack) must:
Remain at Post: Do not leave the assigned post unless relieved by another guard or authorized by a Supervisor.
Access Control: Verify IDs or credentials for every individual entering the facility.
Logbook: Maintain a digital or physical log of all visitors and vehicle entries.
